Summit Overview

The Cross-Continental Cooperation Summit of 2017-18 will be a culmination of 25 events taking place across the globe. The events will take place in major capital cities including Berlin, Washington D.C., NYC, Barcelona, London, Brussels, Paris, Stockholm and Addis Ababa, with the continents of Europe, Africa and America playing host to the events. The Summit will focus on the potential success for improved intercultural relations in uniting the great powers of the contemporary world to better face today's global concerns. 

The Summit will create a forum for the world's powers representatives to publicly discuss and promote upon a common goal, thus initiating potential solutions for contemporary and future world challenges. The ultimate aim of the Summit will be to create a more stable public global environment by promoting intercultural dialogue between nations, consequently bringing the international community closer to a more prosperous future.

The International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy is one of the world’s leading conferences in the fields of international relations and cultural studies. Held annually in Berlin by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, the event brings together renowned figures from international politics and academia to speak to an interdisciplinary audience including diplomatic and political representatives, scholars and academics, students and young professionals, and other interested stakeholders. The International Symposium 2018 will focus on the relationship between Cultural Diplomacy, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding through a program of lectures, discussions, debates, and cultural activities. The Barcelona Summit on Cross Continental Cooperation

The recent Catalan dispute, highlighted in the latest regional election, on December 21st, 2017 demonstrated once again the urgent need for ongoing constructive dialogue in order to achieve and maintain lasting cross-regional cooperation both within and between countries. Currently in Europe, one can see an unstable situation which is highlighted with the following examples: the Ukrainian ongoing crisis, the Russian European relation, NATO issues, the political and civil situation in Bosnia & Herzegovina, the migration dispute within the EU headed by Hungary and Poland, the Brexit, the Scottish independence aspirations, the growing separatist’s calls in Italy, the new formed nationalist government in Austria and on the other hand the call for “the United Sates of Europe” of the German Social Democratic party. Cultural Diplomacy in the Commonwealth 2018

The Commonwealth is an intergovernmental organization of 53 member states, which covers almost a quarter of the world’s entire land area and serves as an influential regional player in global political, economic and cultural affairs. The Commonwealth has a rich and diverse experience of best practices in cultural diplomacy and for this reason serves as a good organization in which to hold an International Symposium. In addition, the Commonwealth constitutes a global community where all members have an equal voice regardless of their size and population. Such a community, with its shared values and history, is the ideal forum for fostering mutual understanding and cooperation through cultural exchange and open dialogue. (More »)
