My participation in the exchange program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) enabled me to receive covered tuition fees while gaining educational and cultural knowledge.
The orientation procedure started with an online session for visa and housing preparation followed by two face-to-face meetings involving course enrolment and Canvas system instruction. All professors kept their classes organized and were accessible through both email messaging and face-to-face sessions. The courses demanded significant effort yet cut down on the necessity for extensive preparation during the exams period.
The shortage of dormitory spaces led me to rent an apartment through a rental company. Modern teaching spaces blended with large libraries, plenty of green spaces and modern activity centres composed the facilities at this university. Wage differences created the main reason why everyday expenses were higher in the United States compared to Greece.
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign funded student participation in numerous campus activities through university budget allocations along with organized entry payments or donations. This educational adventure proved valuable because it expanded both my intellectual and personal capabilities.
